About Me

Yo! I'm Mors, a game developer from Turkey, born sometime in the late '90s. Currently, I'm half of Distant Illusions as the sole designer and gameplay programmer.

I primarily use the engine GameMaker for my games, and have over 15 years of experience in it, using it to make dozens of games throughout my career. I even had the privilege of working directly with the company behind GameMaker, Opera, to make games for their Opera GX gaming browser. One of my games, Operius, has garnered over 2 million plays on Opera's GX.games platform alone, and I'm estimating that over 20 million players have enjoyed the game since its launch in 2021, thanks to its direct inclusion in the browser as its official offline game. My work has also been licensed by sites such as Coolmath Games, shown in places such as Gamescom, published on platforms such as Steam and Nintendo eShop, and featured in publications such as Kotaku, Engadget, Nintendo Life, PC Gamer, and more!

My game development journey began at the age of eight, when I first received a copy of GameMaker 5. It led to me stumbling upon an online forum dedicated to Nintendo fangames, where I found an extremely passionate and helpful community that inspired me to take game development a bit more seriously. Those early projects I made while I was in the fangaming scene somehow managed to become really popular, giving me my first taste of online recognition, and fueling my desire to pursue my passion more seriously. And pursue I did, eventually graduating with a degree in Digital Game Design. It's been a wild ride, as you can tell!

Outside GameMaker, I also have a good amount of experience in C# and C/C++, and tend to explore other engines such as Unity, Unreal Engine, MonoGame, and FNA from time to time. I also sometimes create tools, libraries, and other such software that branch out beyond game development, and even dabble in frontend web design, though it's not something I focus on much these days. I prefer to spend my free time expanding my unnecessarily large knowledge of Sonic the Hedgehog lore instead. Don't ask why.
